When Danny confronts Joey, they remember the day when they became friends in the 5th grade in 1968, when they protected each other. Per the flashback, it was recess, and young Danny was sitting on a bench with a nosebleed, when their teacher, Ms. Borland ordered young Joey to sit there as well, for causing mischief. The class bully (who was implied to have caused Danny's nosebleed) then approached the two, and started to harass Danny, but Joey drove him off with some insults from his joke book. The bully returned a moment later with Ms. Borland, who was prepared to call Joey's parents, but Danny covered for him. Ms. Borland accepted Danny's word without question, as he was the teacher's pet, and she took the bully to the principal's office, revealing his name to be Sheldon, much to Danny and Joey's amusement.

Joey just barely edged Jesse out in terms of laughs thanks to the moment when his quick thinking led him to preserve Michelle's used diaper in Tupperware. Of course Joey was an April Fools' Day master. After spending most of the Season 7 episode, "Love on the Rocks," pranking the family, Jesse and the rest of the gang planned an elaborate trick to make Joey believe he had won the lottery. Joey being Joey was way ahead of them, and ready to outprank his family like a pro.

In "Driving Miss D.J." (5.20), he reminds Michelle that while she and Stephanie share a room, she must go play elsewhere in the event that Stephanie has her friends over, similar to what Stephanie did when she shared the room with D.J. He reminds her that they can't play favorites, and even preaches the classic proverb "You can't always get what you want in life", and his example is that he wanted to be Fred Flintstone growing up, but he "had too many toes". In "The Heartbreak Kid" (6.16), he reminds Michelle that married people (in real life) have to move out of their initial home, asking if that's what she really wants.
